Social Emotional Learning Initiative

ExpandED Schools and Every Hour Counts are grateful to the New York Life Foundation for its generous catalytic $1 million grant supporting our launch and implementation of a national SEL demonstration that bridges school and community partnerships. Phase I of the initiative focused on middle schools in New York City, Dallas, and Omaha. ExpandED Schools provided capacity building to intermediaries Dallas Afterschool and Collective for Youth (located in Omaha) to support and strengthen SEL implementation through school/after-school partnerships. In year 1 and 2 we utilized the Yale RULER SEL framework and supported school teams looking to integrate SEL practices within their academic and enrichment activities throughout the school day and expanded day. In year 3 and 4 we are widening our pool of SEL supports to alternate curriculum and frameworks that schools teams have identified as the appropriate intervention for their school culture. We are also targeting practices and outcomes that demonstrate a strong collaborative effort in increasing family engagement and elevating culturally responsive equitable practices.
